Here is a cute, fun activity for Spring – Copy the Caterpillar Visual Spatial and Visual Motor Activity Freebie. Challenge children’s visual-spatial skills and visual motor skills. Download and print out the activity below. The object of the activity is for the child to copy the caterpillars onto the blank page matching the pattern on the first page.
You will need dot markers, colored stickers, crayons, small pom-poms, clay or coins for this activity. If you want to be able to reuse the paper over and over again use pom-poms, clay, or coins. Instruct the child to copy the pattern exactly onto the blank caterpillars.

The ability to determine spatial relationships is important in everyday tasks for students. They need to interpret what it means to “stand first in a line”, “sit in front of Johnny” or “put the pencil on top of the paper”. If they have difficulty perceiving spatial relationships it can affect your motor skills, body awareness, problem-solving, activities of daily living and overall performance in school. This activity is perfect for early learners to practice visual-spatial relationships.
The Copy the Caterpillar Visual Spatial and Visual Motor Activity allows for early learners to practice visual motor skills as well. Visual-motor skills are crucial for coordination activities. If visually presented information is not perceived correctly, the muscles will get incorrect messages resulting in an inappropriate motor response. Children who have deficits in visual-motor integration may exhibit problems with participating in sports, eye-hand coordination skills, eye-foot coordination skills, bilateral coordination (combining both sides of the body together), body awareness, activities of daily living (i.e. getting food on a fork), copying visual information, drawing, handwriting, lining up math problems, geometry, speed of complete motor tasks, etc.
