HOW TO USE THE HAND WARM UP EXERCISES POSTERS

Here are a few suggestions for how to use the free posters:

  • The easiest option is just to screen share the two pages and see if the students can copy the actions.
  • Print and hang up the posters for a small fine motor station.
  • Try marching in place and doing the hand motions for a gross motor station.
  • Print the black and white posters. Color them in and decorate a bulletin board with the creations!
  • Add them to any obstacle course.

OTHER IDEAS FOR FULL BODY MOVEMENT IDEAS

Need a brain break for the whole class? Play music and dance. Hit pause and the students have to freeze. Hold up one of the hand warm up exercises for them to do while they freeze. Once everyone completes the hand motions, start the music again.

Need an indoor recess idea? Create an action for each hand signal. For example, when you show the fingers crossed poster, your students have to run in place but if you show the call me poster, your students have to do squats. If they get the action wrong they are out of the game. This requires working memory skills as well as physical activity.

Try Four Corners with the posters. Hang the posters up in the four corners of your classroom. The teacher turns around and closes their eyes and all the students pick a corner. When they get to the corner, the students have to copy the hand motions on the hand warm up exercises poster in that corner. Before the teacher turns around, they make their hands into one of the four motions. The teacher turns around and shows that motion. All of the students that are showing that hand motion have to sit down. The students still in the game, pick a new corner and continue playing until only a few students are left as the winners!
