How Do You Play the Community Helpers Game?
DIRECTIONS FOR DIGITAL GAME – YOU ARE HIRED:
- Open one of the 10 PDF games. Click on any person. The object of the game is to find the slide that says YOU ARE HIRED.
- If you don’t find the You Are Hired slide, complete the sign language and exercises that are related to the job. Click on the Home button to return to the homepage to try again.
- Continue completing the community helper activities until someone is HIRED!
The winning YOU ARE HIRED page changes in each of the 10 games so you can play the game over and over again without your students knowing where that slide is hiding.
DIRECTIONS FOR THE WHO AM I INTERACTIVE PDF COMMUNITY HELPER GAME:
Open up the PDF. Click on a number and read the clues about the community helper.
Work together to formulate a guess of what job the person has. When ready, click on CHECK MY ANSWER to see if you guessed correctly!
DIRECTIONS FOR PRINT VERSION
For the YOU ARE HIRED game, print the pages in the packet. Fold up the cards and place them in a box or bag.
Taking turns, each player reaches into the box and pulls out a card. If it is the YOU ARE HIRED card you win! If not, complete the activities on the card and the next player takes a turn.
Keep playing until one player WINS. Toss all the cards back into the box and play again!
Suggestions for the Lesson
You could try using the Community Helper Games in this order:
1 – Play the Who am I interactive PDF game. Work on problem solving while introducing different facts about community helpers.
2 – Play a few rounds of YOU ARE HIRED to get the students fingers and bodies moving while they learn about different jobs.
3 – Practice writing or coloring the pages about the community helpers to reinforce the information.
If you do not have time for the entire lesson, just use the YOU ARE HIRED game as a fun brain break or for indoor recess!
