| Music & Movement for Sensory Processing & Learning and “Getting It Write” A Multi-Sensory Program Approach to Handwriting Dates = November 5 and 6, 2010 location = Little Rock, AR. description = Speaker: Nikki Rosen-Lieberman, MS, OTR/L Music & Movement - Nov. 5 .6 AOTA and ASHA CEUs Description: By adding movement and music to treatment sessions and supporting them in daily routines, children and adults alike can engage in the learning process of self-discovery and personal confidence building. In today’s schools and in the work environment, opportunities for movement have been replaced with more cognitive learning and stationary work situations. Individuals are being deprived of the opportunity to enjoy and appreciate themselves through movement while also engaging in learning, working and social interaction. This workshop will explore ways to use movement and music in treatment and to support healthy learning and living through movement. "Getting It Write" - Nov. 6 .6 AOTA and ASHA CEUs Description “Getting It Write” is a multisensory, 6 week handwriting program for children having difficulty with the foundation skills required for adequate handwriting maturation. Developed by occupational therapists, this group program can be adapted through school programs, clinical treatment, private practice, or community based programming. Included is a useful screening process to assist in recognizing and planning for the individual needs of each participant. Each of the six weeks concentrates on a different foundation skill required for developing good handwriting, including awareness of both sides of the body, somato-sensory processing, vestibular processing, visual-auditory processing, and fine motor skills. Self regulation strategies are encouraged through daily snacks, along with proper sitting posture, pencil grip and paper placement.
